The Derbyshire Redcap Club

With members in each country of the United Kingdom, and most of the counties, you should never be too far away from a Derbyshire Redcap. We have over 50 members, however, only a quarter ‘show’ their birds and some members do not have any birds at all, just a healthy interest in the breed.

The Club has twelve trophies for members to compete for during the year; these are presented at the Annual General Meeting when our active committee reports back to members on work done and decisions taken. The AGM is always well attended; maybe it’s because we meet in a local public house with an optional supper!

The club was very active until the late 1930’s; with the upheaval of the war years, time passed by, members passed away and the club fell into decline. In June 1976 local breeders made a successful attempt to re-form the club, and today it is thriving, bringing in new converts to keep and breed this fascinating fowl, the Derbyshire Redcap.
